Editorial Review for Sullivan's Steakhouse – by Dana Bowen
In Short
The sprawling, elegant dining room, lined with high-walled booths and packed with white-clothed tables--looks and sounds like a Chicago-style steakhouse from the '40s. Large groups enjoy raucous meals, sending the serious, if frazzled servers into a tizzy. The traditional menu adds welcome intrigue with updated retro dishes. Tender filet mignon and well-marbled Kansas Strip are expertly grilled, as is a gigantic smoked pork chop that falls short on flavor.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThere are few bargains to be found on the selective wine list: one is a jammy pinot noir from Rodney Strong ($35).
When to GoThere's always live music during dinner: Weekends bring a live, five-piece jazz band; during the week, a piano player or solo musician entertains.
Where to SitStep into the art-deco library and polished wood bar where gussied up wait-listers sip whiskies, smoke cigars and sway to jazzy piano tunes--you'll swear you've landed in a bygone era, when dining out meant more than a meal.

unfashionable, poor service, rude staff, low quality food, amateur wine list, limited stocked bar, incredibly embarrassing interior decor, 30 years out of date ambience all describe the rather disappointing, but expected experience in this basement, low class diner. They desperately want to be sophisticated, but apparently the powers that be have no clue about the business or that their competition is far outweighing them. Senior Citizen cafeteria's have more style and class. it is full of small town used car salesmen that still think it fashionable to wear pleated khakis, chain bracelets and pinky rings. Their 1950's TV evangelist bad hair cuts match the pathetic desperation of the Tonya's, Sonya's, Amanda's, Dawn's, etc. that hinge to the bar in their Dress Barn fashion, hoping to get lucky and find some local gentry to treat them like the trailer trash they are. Save yourself time and trouble... avoid this place like the plague, unless you really enjoyed being in a dark, poorly lit, overpriced, bad quality, amateur service, country pretending to be middle class urban class.
Pros: double doors to exit quickly
Cons: the building

I have to say >> I am quiet disappointed! We had reservations and when we arrived were told that it would just be a few minutes - so we decided to to wait at the bar... after some time we inquired again to find that they had forgotten us! Our waiter appeared very friendly, unfortunately we only saw him when he took our orders and then again when he came to collect the check!!! Now as far as the food ... we ordered Steak & baked Potatoes - Both Steaks were "burned" and the baked Potatoes was only luke warm! Furthermore the young man that brought us our food did not have enough butter etc. to dress the Potatoes! The entire time no one came by and checked on us - to see if we maybe needed anything else - there was no sign of the waiter that initially had taken our order. I am not sure if by it being the holiday season I should overlook this - however on the other side for a $100.00 dinner I expect only the best food and the best service - which was obviously not provided here!
